Khumbu region, where the tallest mountain Everest lies, is probably one of the most beloved regions for trekking in Nepal. Along with Everest, many other landmarks within the region are breathtaking and beautiful. Among such landmarks are the Gokyo lakes located in the Sagarmatha National Park, and Gokyo Ri, from where you see amazing views of the Himalayan landscape.
The Gokyo Cho La Pass trek is the best alternative for those who want to trek higher than the Everest basecamp. The trek takes trekkers to Cho La Pass, one of the highest passes in the Khumbu region, which makes the trek more adventurous and exciting. The Gokyo Cho La Pass trek starts at Kathmandu, and after preparations, you fly to Lukla, the gateway to Everest. From Lukla, your actual trek starts, and you head to Namche Bazaar via Phakding. At Namche Bazaar, the biggest town in the Khumbu region, you acclimatize for a day and then continue the trek.
The next destination is Gokyo, one of the highlights, which you reach via Dole and Machhermo. You spend two days at Gokyo, and you get to explore the beautiful lakes and their surroundings. On the second day, you hike to Gokyo Ri to see spectacular views of the Gokyo region, mountains, and landscape. After an exciting time at Gokyo, you ascend to Cho La Pass. The climb is tough, but you are rewarded with amazing views of the landscape.
Next, you head to Everest Basecamp to see mountains like Nuptse and Lhotse. Then, you head to Kala Patthar to see the sunrise over Everest and other peaks like Pumori. Then, you head back to Lukla via the same route you took. With this, the Gokyo Cho La trek comes to an end. At every place you stay overnight, the local people warmly greet you.

You arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, as per your scheduled flight. There is the staff who will wait for you to give you a warm welcome. After brief introductions, you head to the hotel and refresh. If you have some time before dinner, you can stroll in the nearby local market. At dinner, you will meet our staff again and discuss the details of the trip.
After breakfast, you head to the domestic airport and catch the flight to Lukla. En route, you get to see various mountains like Langtang and Everest. At Lukla, you will meet the porters and the rest of the team who’ll accompany you throughout the trek. Then after brief introductions, you start to Trek to Phakding. The trail goes steeply downhill and then crosses the Dudh Koshi River via a suspension bridge. After a gentle climb, you reach Phakding. Overnight at teahouse
The trek starts after breakfast. The route today mostly goes uphill. You walk along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River and walk through pine and rhododendron forests. After crossing Benkar village, you reach Monjo, and a bit further from here, you need to show your permits. You then enter the Sagarmatha National Park and see glimpses of Everest and Lhotse. At the end of the trail, you pass a sharp ascend to reach Namche for an overnight stay.
Today, you acclimatize to the high altitudes. Namche Bazaar is the main trading village of the region and is also hustling with traders and tourists. After breakfast, you take on a short hike to Everest View Hotel from where you get to see breathtaking views of the glorious mountains, including Mt. Everest. Then, you head back and enjoy your free time exploring the market and interacting with the local people.
The trek starts after breakfast. The trail goes through rhododendron and pine forests, and the route is more relaxed as it is on relatively flat terrain. You get to see mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Nuptse, and many more, you head up a steep trail leading you to Mongla Danda. Next, you descend and then ascend again to reach Dole for an overnight stay.
Today, you start to notice the change in vegetation, as small thorny bushes are more abundant. The trail you hit after breakfast goes along tiny villages, which are used by herders when they bring yaks for pasture during summer. En route, you get to view Mt. Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world. You reach Machhermo via Luza for an overnight stay at the teahouse.
After breakfast, the trail leads you to Ngozumpa Glacier. The route today is filled with moraines and rocks. After crossing the ridge and river bank, you reach the giant Ngozumpa Glacier. Then, you reach a small lake called Longponga. The trail filled with moraines continues, and you finally reach Gokyo Lake. Overnight stay at the teahouse.
Gokyo is a vast region, and you can see amazing views from here. You can head to a nearby ridge and see spectacular views of the valley. After seeing the sights, you head down and explore the lake and its surroundings. Since this will be the last time you rest at a place for more than one day, it is better to walk and explore the surroundings as you can adapt to the high altitudes.
After breakfast, you head to Gokyo Ri (5,340 m) to see the breathtaking panoramas of the Gokyo Valley and mountains like Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Amadablam, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and many more. Then, you head back and trek towards Thangna. The trail ascends and descends along the glaciers. Finally, you reach Thangna, the basecamp for Cho La Pass, for an overnight stay at the teahouse.
Day 10: Thangna to Dzongla (4843m.) via Cho La pass (5420m.) 7-8hrs
After breakfast, you head to Cho La Pass. The trail to this pass is steep, narrow, and filled with ice. At one point, the trail sharply ascends through a glacier, so you need to be careful. You then reach the Cho La Pass from where you can see the beautiful landscape and various mountains like Cho Oyu, Amadablam, Lhotse, and many more. Then, you descend through pine forests and reach Dzongla for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, you head to Gorakshep. The trail passes by villages like Lobuche. Through the ups and downs of the path, you get to see amazing views of the mountains. You also pass by the memorial area made to remember older climbers. After a final steep ascent, you reach Gorakshep, the gateway to Everest basecamp. You stay overnight at the teahouse.
After breakfast, you prepare to climb to Everest Basecamp. The trail goes along glaciers and a snowy path filled with rocks. En route, you can see small frozen lakes and glaciers. Once you reach the basecamp, the view of the Khumbu Icefall is breathtaking. Along with it, you can also see panoramic views of Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, and many more. After soaking in the light, return back to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.
Today, you wake up at dawn to see the sunrise at Kala Patthar. The trail is short but filled with snow and ice. Once you reach Kala Patthar, the old basecamp, you can see spectacular views of the mountains like Everest and Pumori, and the sunrise makes it more wonderful. After enjoying the sights, you head to Gorakshep and then head to Pheriche for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, you descend to Namche Bazaar. The route is filled with pleasant views of the landscape. En route, you get to see many monasteries, Chortens, and prayer flags. As you descend to lower elevations, you start to walk through forest areas. You can also see small settlement areas along the way. Before nightfall, you reach Namche Bazaar for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, you retrace your steps back to Phakding. The route goes downhill, and then you start to walk along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River. The trail then goes through forests filled with rhododendrons and pine. After crossing Benkar, you reach Phakding for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, you head to Lukla. The walk is short and pleasant. Then you have lunch and rest for a while. You will get some free time before dinner to explore the town on your own. In the evening, you meet the porters and other staff who accompanied on your trek for farewell dinner.
After breakfast, you head to the airport and board the plane heading to Kathmandu. This will be the final time you get to see the mountains, so enjoy the snow-clad sceneries en route. Once you reach Kathmandu, you head to the hotel and refresh. You have free time before dinner, so you can enjoy the time on your own by shopping for souvenirs or relaxing at a café.
Today is the last day of the trip. Please make sure that all your belongings are with you. As per your scheduled flight, our staff will drop you off at the airport.
