Lapilang Village is located 8 hours northeast of Katmandu, on route to the Tibetan border. The village is on the mountain slope with a great view of mount Everest in the distance. The villagers are of Thami descent and speak their own Thami language. The teachers at the school and your hosts speak English.

There are two options open to you:
1 – Organize with local mount Everest guide Nar Bahadur Gautam who will reserve a jeep for you, accompany you and provide the translation. It is by far, the most comfortable way to get there. Cost: ?? ….. Approach cost US$ 150-170
2 – Take a local bus from Katmandu to Lapilang (an 8-hour ride), meet your host at the foot of the mountain who will guide you up to the village, and help with your luggage. Cost: ?? …approach US$ 20 pp
You will sleep in your own quarters. The homestay is simple and basic, do not expect any luxuries here. You will live as the locals do, with an extra touch of comfort. There is a cold water source and a Turkish toilet and shower.

Enjoy simple homecooked meals by your hosts. Food consists of what can be grown on the mountain. There are no shops in the village so plan to bring a few snacks along.
There are a number of activities you can partake in and your hosts and other English-speaking teachers/guide will accompany you and translate for you. Each is unique and rewarding.

· Enjoy traditional dance performance ($)
· Hike up the mountain to prayer site
· Watch farmers at work
· Socialize with the children
